Dual Channel Flume

Increase the range of your tests by doing cross comparisons between temperature and water velocity.

This dual channel flume is ideal to study the effect of the current on small aquatic and marine organisms, such as the development of salmonid fry.

Each set is made of two flumes sharing the same water and monitoring system. Thus, the temperature and the physicochemical quality of water (O2, pH, salinity, N-NH4…) are identical in the two flumes while the water velocity is adjustable independently for each one.

The 80 cm (31”) experimental section is delimited by barriers to contain fish.

A variable speed propeller engine calibrated in factory is associated with a series of honeycomb screens and deflectors to create a linear current. The channels can operate at two levels of velocity range and precision:

  • Low velocity (0.1 to 0.9 + 0.01 cm/s).

  • High velocity (1.0 to 10 + 0.1 cm/s).

The Flow Monitron associated with a sealed and CSA certified control panel is the system mastermind. With the keyboard of the Flow Monitron, the user adjusts the unit temperature and the water velocity in each channel. He can also measure the dissolved oxygen, salt content and pH (probes required). Note that the generated data can be continuously recorded by connecting the Monitron to a computer (the data recording program is optional).

Operating in closed circuit, this unit is connected to a filtration and recycling system of ECO-type water. Compact and easy to maintain, this system is made of all the necessary elements to help preserve water quality, whatever the level of recirculation (80 to 99.9% of the flow). The biological filter is preactivated with active nitrifying bacteria (saves 4-6 weeks of maturation). Water heating is carried out by a glass thermometer located on the waterline and is thermally protected.

Options

  • This unit can also operate in cold water (minimal temperature of 5°C for a room temperature of 20°C).  We add a glycol cooling system connected to a titanium heat exchanger.

  • The percentage of recirculation can be controlled automatically by the Flow Monitron through the addition of an accurate diaphragm pump which let in the make-up feedwater according to the proportion of the water volume to be renewed per day.

  • pH monitoring: our team has very good experience monitoring pH levels in a closed circuit. Our sampler takes water from the unit and measures the pH by isolating the water from any electric interference. We add the pH probe with transmitter and the sampler to the system.

  • Data recording program.

  • Oxygen probe linked to the flow Monitron.

  • Salinity probe with transmitter linked to the Flow Monitron.
