REBF Modules

Multi Stages Water Treatment Capabilities for High Water Quality

Zone de Texte: Exemple of REBF Module - AQUA Our water filtration systems are called REBF (water REcirculation with BioFiltration) Modules. They are designed to recycle close to 100% of the water in a given body of water, while maintaining environmental conditions optimal.

All aspects of water filtration are taken into account:  removal of suspended solids and dissolved organics, biofiltration, chemical filtration, gas exchanges, and pathogenic agents. Depending on needs and the application and Module Type (AQUA-REBF OR ECO-REBF), the components selected for water treatment stages will vary.

Low-density operations range at about 5 g fish/L. Our ECO-REBF Modules will confortably maintain a cristal clear environment for this density up to 15 g fish/L fed.

High density AQUA-REBF Modules, on the other hand, are designed for aquaculture operations (in the range of 40 g/L).

Each of these Module is perfectly adapted to the conditions for which it is designed. With the AQUA-REBF Modules, water quality in high-density aquaculture systems remains excellent. ECO-REBF Modules are more compact and more cost-efficient.

Depending on Module Type (AQUA-REBF OR ECO-REBF) and specific requirements, the components selected for water treatment stages may vary.

ECO-REBF's Component*

1. Pre-filtration

Large mesh pad; easy to change and economical.

2. Fine filtration

1 to 50 µm cartridge filter depending on client’s choice or 20 µm sand media filtration.

3. Ultra-fine filtration

Foam fractionation (saltwater only) remove particles smaller than 1 micron.

4. Activated carbon         filtration

Removes colour & dissolved organics from water

5. Biofiltration

Our highly reliable and proven AquaNit™ Trickling Biofilter. Compact, it runs along the left side of the frame.

These are activated before delivery with active fresh or saltwater nitrifying bacteria. This unique feature save you a tremendous amount of biofilter maturation time, protecting your fish against ammonia peaks during the first months. We show your personnel how to reactivate the nitrifying population within the biofilter upon its delivery.

6. Denitrification

Submerged biofilter filled with Siporax™ for auxiliary nitrification and some denitrification

7. Gas control

Within the biofilter; CO2 degassing action is greatly enhanced through the injection of counter current air at the base of the AquaNit biofilter

8. pH control

Natural crushed coral with higher buffering capacity aragonite contributes to the maintenance of an optimal pH

9. Sterilisation

UV sterilizer froom 100 000 to 300 000 µW/cm2.s

Features exclusive to AquabioLab Zebrafish Central Filtration System

All our REBF Modules are designed to prevent nitrogen gas super saturation.

  • Gas super saturation is a major cause of gas bladder problems and, in worst cases, fish kills in closed systems operating under pressure.   Nitrogen (N) supersaturation is caused by air leaks, pump cavitation, or rapid increase in water temperature.  To provide protection from the accidental build-up of N gas, our REBF Modules have a built-in low pressure section (the trickling biofilter) that provides constant degassing and aeration action of all the water before it reaches the fish tanks.  This gas stripping action is easily enhanced by connecting the included ½ ? valve at the base of the biofilter to an air hose.  By using aquabioLab systems, you automatically abide to Guideline 38

  • Again, the rapid increase in water temperature generates important releases of gas from water and blood that directly leads to gas super saturation in fish.  Our unique Control and Monitoring system, the Monitron, automatically prevents water temperature within the unit from warming up too quickly.  The rise in water temperature can be automatically adjusted to a safe 1°C increase/hour.    See Control and Monitoring section for details.
